Our influences are shared and the writing is on the wall to
take greater care of ourselves in the present while at the
same time taking aim at preventative measures for the future.
Without a doubt our changing health landscape is a major factor.
The majority of ailments that afflict us are related to our
lifestyle. Whether it's obesity or chronic obstructive pulmonary
disease, we have far greater control and ability to change
and chart our health in a favorable, proactive fashion.
Our health care system is evolving as well, and its functional
ability is raising many questions and challenges. How can
a system, in Ontario for example, that now charges for eye
exams, chiropractic and physiotherapy be an improvement when
one examines the drug cocktails and fixed incomes that some
of our parents face?
Our lifelong aim is to utilize the health information and
technology available to us to empower us to be more self-sufficient
in maintaining our health.
